ChatGPT Just Killed Canva

For years, AI image generators had one hilarious weakness: text. Ask for a poster with words on it and you'd get something that looked like alphabet soup written by a drunk ghost.

OpenAI launched ChatGPT Images 2.0, and it's the first AI image model that renders text you can actually use. Not "close enough if you squint." Actually correct.

I ran one prompt and got back a full magazine cover. Multilingual. Pixel-sharp. Editorial quality. The kind of thing you'd normally pay a designer for, or spend an afternoon fighting with templates to fake.

The moment AI can spell, half the design tools on your screen become optional.

Why this is a Canva problem

Here's the thing about tools like Canva. Their whole value was making it easy to drop clean text onto a nice layout. That was the job.

Now you can describe the layout, the text, the vibe, and the language, and get a finished asset back in one shot. No dragging boxes. No font hunting. No "why is this element locked." (We've all been there. We've all considered throwing the laptop.)

This doesn't mean designers are done. Good taste still wins, and someone has to know what to ask for. But the floor just moved way up. The stuff that used to take skill and software now takes a sentence.

Go test it with your own brand. Then look at your design subscription and ask if it still earns its spot.
