Claude Cowork Email Assistant: Draft, Do Not Send

Claude Cowork Email Assistant: Draft, Do Not Send

An inbox is not a productivity system. It is a guilt pile with timestamps.

Claude Cowork can read the messages, sort the work, flag the replies that actually need you, and draft a first response. The useful part is not pretending it should send on your behalf. The useful part is getting to a clean review queue faster.

Sort the Work Before You Write It

Start by connecting the inbox and asking Claude to group what is there. What needs a reply? What is informational? What can wait? What needs a decision from you instead of another drafted email?

Then use a second prompt for the hard part: draft the replies, but do not send them. That one boundary changes the whole workflow. Claude does the repetitive first pass. You keep the judgment, the voice, and the final click.

A useful assistant reduces the pile. It does not quietly become your public voice.

Review drafts for a week. Notice what it gets right and what it misses. Improve the instructions. Turn the process into a reusable Skill if it proves reliable.

Only then should you consider scheduling a regular run. The right order is simple: show the work, draft the work, then act on the work. Skipping straight to the last step is how an email helper becomes an email problem.
