ChatGPT is a great place to ask questions. That's the thing it's built to do, and it does it well. But "answer my question" and "do my work" are different jobs, and somewhere along the way we started confusing the two.

Five things a chatbot can't do

Cowork runs background tasks while you do something else. It controls your Mac, clicking and navigating like a real operator. It orchestrates multiple apps in one workflow. It runs on a schedule, repeating jobs without being asked. And it delivers finished files straight to your computer.

A chat window can't do any of that. It can describe doing it, beautifully, and then hand the actual work back to you.

A chatbot tells you how to do the task. A coworker does the task. Pick the one you actually needed.

Why the gap keeps widening

The leap from "AI that talks" to "AI that acts" is the whole ballgame right now. Background execution, computer control, scheduling, multi-app workflows. Those aren't features you bolt onto a chatbot. They're a different category of tool.

That's why this isn't a fair fight. They're not competing for the same job. (One of them just happens to be the job most people actually have.)

Stop asking your AI for instructions you then carry out yourself. Hand the whole task over and see what comes back done.
