The First Claude Cowork Step Most People Skip

Most people open Claude Cowork and start chatting immediately. That's the wrong move.
The very first thing you need to do is set up your workspace folder. This is the local folder on your computer where every single file Claude creates gets stored. Documents, scripts, dashboards, data files, all of it. Skip this step and you're basically hiring an assistant and not giving them a desk.
Here's the 30-second version:
How to Set It Up
Open Cowork. Look at the top of the screen and either pick an existing folder or create a new one. That's it. Two clicks, and now everything Claude builds has a home you control.
I keep separate folders for every major project. Content folder, business folder, community folder. (Because one giant folder named "stuff" is how good intentions go to die.)
Why It Matters More Than It Looks
Everything else in Cowork builds on this. Your CLAUDE.md file lives here. Your project files live here. When Claude generates a report at 7 a.m. while you're asleep, it lands here. The workspace folder is the difference between Claude being a chat window and Claude being a coworker with access to actual work.
Give Claude a desk before you give it a job.

Go make the folder. It takes two clicks and your future self says thanks.
