ChatGPT Wrote an Essay? One Line Fix

You asked ChatGPT one small question. It responded with a five-paragraph essay, a numbered list, two analogies, and a closing motivational quote. (You wanted a yes or no.)

This is not a bug. It is the default personality, and you can turn it off in one line.

The one line

Put this at the top of your prompt:

"Answer in two sentences max. No preamble, no summary."

That is it. You just told the model the shape of the answer before it started writing, which is the whole game.

Why it works

ChatGPT pads because it does not know how long you want the answer to be, so it guesses long. Length is a safe default for a model that gets graded on looking thorough. (Nobody ever complained an AI was too helpful, except all of us, constantly.)

When you set the length first, you remove the guess. It stops performing and just answers.

Tune the number to the job. "One word" for a quick call. "Two sentences" for a real answer. Drop the limit entirely when you actually want the essay.

Stop scrolling through filler. Set the length and move on.
