You point out one mistake and ChatGPT collapses into a puddle. "You're absolutely right, I apologize for the confusion." Then it apologizes again next message. And the one after. (Self-esteem of a wet paper towel.)

"Do not apologize. If you make a mistake, just give the corrected answer."

Now when it is wrong, it fixes the thing instead of performing contrition.

Why it does the sorry dance

The model was trained to sound agreeable and deferential, so getting corrected triggers a politeness reflex. The apology is filler, and worse, it makes the model sound like it has no idea what it is doing even when the fix is correct.

You do not need ChatGPT to feel bad. You need it to be right. Cut the apology and keep the correction.

A confident fix reads better and saves you from scrolling past "I'm so sorry" to find the actual answer.
