ChatGPT Output Trash? Your Prompts Need This

If your ChatGPT output is garbage, the model is not the problem. Your prompt is. (I know, nobody wants to hear that. It is still true.)

And the fix is mostly about the first three lines, because that is where you set the rules before the model starts cooking.

Constraints first, context after

Most people front-load context and bury the actual instructions at the bottom. Flip it. Start with the constraints, then add the background. Here is a clean example:

"Write a 150-word cold email to a SaaS founder. Tone: direct, confident, no fluff. Avoid buzzwords and generic openings. Goal: get a short reply."

Length, tone, what to avoid, and the goal, all stated up top before a single word of output. The model now knows the shape of the answer before it writes it.

The first three lines of your prompt do most of the work. Set the constraints there and the rest takes care of itself.

Why order matters

When constraints come first, the model treats them as the frame for everything that follows. When they come last, they read like an afterthought and get half-applied. Same words, different result, just from the order.

Lead with the rules. Add context after. Go rewrite that prompt and watch the output stop being trash.
