ChatGPT Still Hides Its Reasoning? Add These 3 Lines

ChatGPT hands you a confident answer and zero explanation. Is it right? No idea. You just have to take its word for it. (Trust me, says the machine that confidently made up a fake source last Tuesday.)

You can pull the reasoning into the open with three lines.

The three lines

Add this to your prompt:

"Show your reasoning before the answer. List the key assumptions you are making. Flag anything you are unsure about."

Now you get the thinking, the assumptions, and the soft spots, not just a verdict.

Why this matters more than the answer

An answer with no reasoning is impossible to check. When the model shows its work, you can spot where it went wrong, catch a bad assumption, and decide whether to trust the result.

The answer tells you what. The reasoning tells you whether to believe it. You want both.

That third line, flagging uncertainty, is the sleeper. It turns a confidently wrong answer into a "here is where I might be off," which is exactly the warning you need before you act on it.

Stop taking the output on faith. Make it show the work and judge for yourself.
