Custom GPTs Are Dead. Do This Instead

Remember when everyone was building Custom GPTs? Spinning up a little named bot for every task, naming it something clever, adding an avatar? (Mine had a logo. I was very proud.)

Now nobody opens them. Here is what actually replaced them.

The problem with Custom GPTs

They lived in a separate menu. To use one you had to remember it existed, go find it, and switch into it. Most people built three, used them once, and forgot the rest. (A graveyard of well-intentioned bots.)

The friction killed them. A tool you have to go hunting for is a tool you will not use.

Do this instead

Put your instructions where you already work. Use Projects to hold the context for a body of work, and use custom instructions for the rules you want every chat to follow. Both live right in your main flow. No menu diving, no switching personas.

The best setup is the one you do not have to remember to use. Bring the instructions to the chat instead of going to the bot.

For repeatable tasks, save the prompt as a snippet you paste in. Same power as a Custom GPT, zero overhead.

The fancy version lost to the convenient version. It usually does. Go set up your Project and stop building bots nobody opens.
