Stop Waiting 30 Seconds For ChatGPT To Reply

You ask a simple question and ChatGPT responds with a five-paragraph essay, complete with a "let's break this down" and three subheadings you didn't ask for. Then you wait while it types all of it out.

You don't need a faster computer. You need to tell it to stop overexplaining. One Custom Instruction does exactly that.

The instruction

Go to Settings, then Custom Instructions, and paste this in:

Default to concise output. Answer in 3 to 5 bullets (max ~80 words) unless I
ask for detail. If info is missing, ask ONE clarifying question; otherwise
make a reasonable assumption and state it. End with a one-line takeaway.

If I want more detail, I will explicitly ask: "deep dive" or "expand". When I
ask for more detail, provide a structured, longer answer.

Now short is the default and long is opt-in. When you actually want the deep version, you just say "deep dive" or "expand" and it switches into full detail mode.

Make brevity the default and depth a request. Most of the time you wanted the bullet, not the essay.

Set it once. Enjoy answers that show up before you've finished your coffee.
